The branch has an email user group to improve communications within the branch.
The branch officers hope very much that you will join the group and make full use of it. Full details of the group are given below. To join, send an email to thesecretary@ebsb.org.uk.
What is a User Group?
A user group is a group of people with a common interest who wish to be able to send and receive emails to and from all members of the group. In our case any member of the EBSB branch can join. Our group has been set up using Google Groups, and you just need a computer and the ability to receive and send emails.
How is it used?
Any member of the group can send an email to the group email address. Our group email address is ebsbbranch@googlegroups.com.
All members of the group will receive the email that has been sent to this email address. If they wish, members can reply to the email, either just to the member who has sent the email, or to all group members.
What will the group be used for?
Short of a ringer for a wedding? Has your practice been cancelled this week? Looking for another ringer for a quarter peal? These are examples where being a member of a group could be very useful. With just one email you can reach many members of the branch.
The user group and also be used to express an opinion (e.g. “I really enjoyed the branch practice last night”), ask a question (“Can someone let me have an easy quarter peal composition for Grandsire Triples?”) or perhaps to start a discussion (“Can anyone let me know the best supplier of new ropes?”).
User groups are currently being very successfully used by many other ringing guilds and branches, and we hope eventually that it will become the main way that information about branch activities will be communicated to branch members.
How is the group managed?
Our branch secretary, Mandy Salter, manages our group. She will add new members to the group, remove members when they no longer wish to be members, and change the various options as necessary.
How do I join?
Just let Mandy have your email address and she will add you into the group. You can do this by sending an email to thesecretary@ebsb.org.uk .
What if I get too many emails?
Mandy will monitor the number of emails sent to the group email address. All emails received from group members are clearly marked in the subject line, and could be easily deleted if the subject is not of interest.
If you feel that the number of emails you receive increases to an unacceptable level, just let Mandy know and she will be able to change your group setting so that emails are combined and you will then receive no more than one email a day from the group.
What if I decide I no longer wish to be a member?
If you no longer wish to be a member, just let Mandy know and she will remove you from the user group.
